International Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD), which takes place on March 8th, is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women, past, present and future. "Originally known as International Working Women’s Day, its roots lie in the socialist, rather than feminist, struggle of the early 20th century". The first IWD was launched on March 8th, 1911 in Copenhagen by Clara Zetkin, leader of the 'Women's Office" for the Social Democratic Party in Germany.
