Teacher's Day, which is a perfect opportunity for students to pay tribute to their teachers, is celebrated in many countries around the world. In Brazil it is celebrated on October 15^th.

Teacher’s Day started to be celebrated in Brazil in 1947. It originated in a school in São Paulo, the Ginásio Caetano de Campos, when four teachers Salomão Becker, Alfredo Gomes, Antônio Pereira and Claudino Busko had the idea of taking a day to rest and to discuss both the improvement of the teaching profession and the teaching and learning process. Salomão Becker suggested October 15^th because is his hometown pupils and teachers took candies to school to fraternize and celebrate the day Dom Pedro I had approved a decree regulating elementary schools in Brazil. The idea gained popularity throughout the country, but October 15^th was only officially designed a holiday in schools in 1963, by the federal decree 52.682 signed by president João Goulart.
